Synopsis
In the gripping fantasy novel, Phoenix Nikolai Haggardy, a ruthless adult material producer, rules his empire with a menacing and decisive nature. He crushes his enemies with ease, but one person remains untouchable in his world: his daughter, Becka Michelle Haggardy. Although Becka is aware of her father's business, she has never been involved. Haggardy ensures she stays away from the industry, gently nudging her out of its grasp. Becka lives a life of luxury thanks to her father's success, entertaining friends and enjoying the trappings of wealth without ever needing to exert herself. Her high intelligence and bombshell looks make her a perfect candidate for the business, yet Haggardy keeps her sheltered and protected.
Ashlin Daniel Lane, an FBI field agent, infiltrates Haggardy's operation under the guise of an actress. Her mission is part of a larger FBI initiative to embed agents into adult film studios across the country in order to uncover illegal activities. Ashlin becomes one of the top actresses in Haggardy's domain and earns his appreciation, all while secretly gathering evidence against him. Despite her dedication to the FBI's cause, Ashlin finds herself conflicted by Haggardy's genuine care for Becka. She never experienced such a relationship with her own father and harbors feelings of jealousy and admiration towards Becka's privileged life. Her enjoyment of her role within the company sometimes colors her reports to the FBI; she relishes being an actress and hesitates at the thought of it ending.
As Ashlin navigates her dual identity, she struggles with maintaining loyalty to her mission while savoring the unexpected pleasures of her undercover life. The more she observes Haggardy's unwavering protection of Becka, the more she questions her own objectives. Her reports grow increasingly sympathetic towards the studio, reflecting her inner turmoil. Despite this conflict, Ashlin knows that she cannot abandon her responsibilities to the FBI. The tension reaches a peak as Ashlin gathers enough evidence to implicate Haggardy but hesitates to turn it in, apprehensive about destroying what has become a second family to her.
Ashlin finally submits her findings to the FBI, leading to a raid on Haggardy's operations. As agents storm the studio, Ashlin watches as Haggardy is taken away in handcuffs. The betrayal leaves him stunned but resolute; he knew this day might come yet never suspected Ashlin's role in it. Becka stands by helplessly as her father's empire crumbles around them. The raid brings Ashlin no satisfaction; instead, it intensifies her feelings of loss. She sees Becka struggling in the aftermath and realizes she has removed the only gate between her and the reality of the world.
Becka is flung into a world she must manage on her own. No one loves her like her father did, and soon the vultures come swarming in to devour her heart, mind, and body. From the chaos, Becka is approached by several powerful men in the industry, who have always known she could be a superstar in the industry. She suddenly disappears, leaving many questions as to her whereabouts.
Dameon, Becka's captor, is a sadistic man, and only Becka's cool intellect can save her from being tortured to death in his hellish private chambers. Becka must stay calm, quick-witted, and maintain exceptional emotional intelligence over the situation or she will surely die an agonizing death.
This thrilling narrative captures the essence of Haggardy, a book penned by Jerry Waugh, showcasing the intertwining of personal struggles within a dark and captivating world.
